Enforcement
Transfer
Station Dumping Procedure With the most recent court rulings affecting the disposal of solid waste in New Jersey to a more competitive market-based environment, the Authority has made aggressive steps to take advantage of the changing times. A new contract has been negotiated with GROWS Landfill, which significantly reduces landfill disposal costs. This agreement allows the Authority to take advantage of current market disposal costs. The Authority has also awarded a new bid for the operation of the county transfer station at a rate less than the current rate. Efforts in enforcement have repeatedly been called the finest in the state, by New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection officials. The assertive tactics employed by enforcement officers have resulted in very little of the county's waste by-passing its disposal system--even in the face of deregulation. Our "Pro-active approach ensures all claims of suspicious behavior or illegal dumping are inspected--with appropriate course of action taken," according to Enforcement Chief, Patrick Cane All enforcement officers are trained to handle difficult situations including serious infractions like illegal dumping. But they also respond to all inquiries related to trash and recycling pick-up as requested by Mercer County residents. Whether they're dealing with the appearance of an unusual trash truck across county lines, or a resident who's left with a mess on his property after trash pick-up, all calls are handled expeditiously and with an all-important personal touch. This personal touch has not only resulted in customer satisfaction, it has resulted in substantial savings for Aberdeen Sportswear, Inc., of Trenton, whose office manager wrote in a recent letter, "By alerting me that there are markets for our waste, I have been able to find payable markets for plastic bags, cardboard and paper waste. I have been able to reduce our waste disposal by 80-90%. This endeavor has not only reduced our waste, but has also put Aberdeen in a position where our waste is actually turned into profit. One person's waste is another person's treasure."
