The Mercer County Improvement Authority (MCIA) maintains an Environmental Lending Library for students and educators. The Library offers print and video materials on a wide range of issues such as recycling, environmental shopping, composting, litter abatement and more. The MCIA is committed to educating young people about recycling. Our goal is to motivate students and make them want to recycle as part of the lifestyle.

To learn about recycle and reuse of yard and food waste through composting, please tour the Mercer County Home Composting Demonstration Site and Gardens located at the Mercer County Equestrian Center, 431A Federal City Road in Pennington. The site features 21 different composting bins. Funded by a grant provided through the MCIA, the site was developed by Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Mercer and their Master Gardeners. For more information, please contact Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Mercer County at 989-6830.
